      Ed is a graduate of the Walter F. George School of Law, Mercer

University, where he was selected by the Faculty to be a Member of the Mercer Law Review, to serve as an Academic Mentor to incoming law  students, and to assist with writing and editing of law treatises for publication.  Upon graduating from law school in 1992, he worked as an associate and later a partner with a number of well respected law firms in Savannah, GA with a diverse background in litigation until deciding to start his own law firm, the Stabell Law Firm, LLC, in October, 2017 and move his offices to Marietta, GA, where he was born and raised. 

     Ed is a Member of State Bar of Georgia and has been a Member of Georgia Defense Lawyers Association, where he was a past Chairman of the Insurance Coverage, Transportation, Professional Liability and Automobile Law Committees, the Defense Research Institute, the Claims and Litigation Management ("CLM"), which is a national organization of insurance corporations and companies, executives, and attorneys dedicated to standardizing litigation practices and promoting integrity in claims handling, asset protection and legal defense pertaining to the insurance industry and corporate leg l departments and is open to attorneys by invitation only,  and the Professional Liability Defense Federation, which is likewise open to attorneys by invitation only.  

     Ed has given lectures and seminars on insurance law and coverage, bad faith and extra-contractual liability, and tort and defense law to Members of the Savannah Bar Association, the CLM, insurance companies, and other insurance industry groups.  He has authored “Insurance Coverage Update,” Georgia Defense Lawyers Association Law Journal (2013); “The Current Status of Apportionment in Georgia: As Many Questions as Answers”, Georgia Defense Lawyers Association Law Journal (2012); “2007 Insurance Law Update,” Georgia Defense Lawyer’s Association Law Journal (2008); “Catastrophic Railroad Grade Crossing Accidents in Georgia:  From the Commercial Motor Carrier’s Perspective,” Georgia Defense Lawyer’s Association Law Journal (2001); "Settling Personal Injury Cases:  Those Pesky Subrogation Claims,” Georgia Defense Lawyers Association Law Journal (1995); and Zinerman v. Burch: “Putting Brackets around the Parratt Doctrine", Mercer Law Review (1991).  

     Ed is admitted to practice in all trial courts of the State of Georgia, the Georgia Court of Appeals, the Georgia Supreme Court, the United States District Courts for the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Georgia, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.  He has handled and continuesd to handle cases and claims throughout Georgia as well as North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama and Florida.   

      Until recently, Ed handled cases and claims solely for domestic and international insurance companies and their insureds, including various insurance syndicates at Lloyd's of London, but for the last several years has decided to apply his knowledge and experience in handling insurance claims and cases to help plaintiffs and claimants be fairly compensated and maximize their recoveries in legitimate cases.  As a seasoned insurance defense and coverage trial attorney, he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience regarding how insurance companies evaluate, settle and defend claims for his select clients that is simply not available or known to most attorneys who handle plaintiff's cases.  For that reason, Ed has been sought out by plaintiff's attorneys, who have associated him as co-counsel  on their cases that have gone into litigation and are facing a potential trial.

      Ed's diverse background and experience in litigation, trial work and appellate work also includes divorce and domestic relations, business contract and tort,  employment, real estate, complex bankruptcy and collections, employment, non-compete clause, and copyright and infringement litigation, among others.  

      With regard to divorce and domestic relation litigation, although experienced in handling all aspects of that area of law, Ed has developed a specialty  in representing those who are seeking to divorce a spouse with Borderline Personality Disorder ("BPD"), which is based not only on his professional experience, but also upon his personal  experience.  Due to the abandonment and love/hate factors that underlie this personality disorder, BPDs make some of the most difficult spouses from whom to obtain a divorce and resolve related domestic issues on reasonable terms and in a timely manner and can and do inflict significant emotional trauma and financial ruin on their often co-dependent non-BPD spouses, which needs to be properly addressed both inside and outside the courtroom for the Non-BPD spouse to heal from these toxic relationships and move forward with a brighter future.
